“Fakkah Fuzz: Too Real” is a Real Waste of Time

I tried watching the new release on Netflix, but couldn’t get past the first 15 mins. In that short time, he pressed my buttons enough for me to expose him for the unschooled sexist and racist that he is. First, it was the bad English. “We’re in good terms.” he declared with a smile. Nothing short of embarrassing to be grouped into the same nationality. Other comics such as He and Jiaoying Summers, despite English not being their first or native tongue, don’t torture us with bad language, while the Fakkah drags his nails on a blackboard, trying to be funny. The Speak Good English Movement was tailored for such people. I don’t relate in any way to the Fakkah. My life as a born and bred Singaporean has been absolutely different.

In just one sentence, he puts down the Chinese and Chinese women.”I’m a very chill Malay boy, but when I start complaining, I’m a middle-aged Chinese woman.” There. Sexist and racist at the same time. In my career of over 20 years, I’ve met many powerful and driven middle-aged Chinese women, who occupy key positions in government, government-related organsations and private corporations. At home, they are effective and efficient homemakers, loving wives and nurturing mothers. They are driven in their quest for perfection in every facet of their lives and an inspiration to others who want to do better. Hey Fakkah, the reason your brain can’t process imperfection is because you can’t  recognise perfection, and compared to a middle-aged Chinese woman, you’re at best a chill Malay boy trying to be funny. Epic fail.
